Introducing, Jordan Robinson - Scotland RL’s U16 pathway new Head Coach

By Edinburgh Eagles

Scotland Rugby League recently named their new coaching team for the under 16’s player pathway with Jordan Robinson taking the reins as head coach, working alongside assistants Matt Bowen and Dan Turland, plus team manager Martin Robertson.

A familiar face to some but unknown to others Edinburgh Eagles asked……….who is Jordan Robinson?

Jordan will be recognisable to Edinburgh Eagles players and supporters alike after officiating in more than one of the clubs games in last season’s NERL Cup run. The experienced coach has spent a number of years coaching juniors at North East club Cramlington Rockets, including their under 16’s side who this year, competed with great success against rugby league “heartlands” teams in the Yorkshire League and National Cup. In addition to this, last season he combined his role as General Manager at League 1’s Newcastle Thunder, with coaching the club’s under 16 Academy team. Playing regularly against the academies of established Super League and Championship clubs, they gained victories over Leeds Rhinos, Widnes Vikings, Wakefield Trinity and London Broncos……….not bad for a “development area”.

Eagles chairman Barry McGuffog spoke to Jordan to find out his plans regarding the player pathway;
“The aim over the next few years is to grow the awareness of the sport in Scotland and to give aspiring players a full pathway to the first team. We will be casting our net far and wide to assemble the best possible Scotland U16 side and we would like to see a big turnout for the first session on the 4th of November. Our plan is to run a couple of open access sessions that anyone can attend then after that we will select the full academy side that will continue to train and play in the 2019 fixtures.”

Jordan’s first training session as head coach takes place on Sunday 4th November at Peffermill playing fields, Edinburgh, EH16 5LL, starting at 11:30. The session will finish at approximately 15:00 and is open to all players eligible to represent Scotland (via birth or heritage), regardless of rugby league experience, aged under 16 on September 1st 2018. All at Edinburgh Eagles would like to wish Jordan, Matt, Dan and Martin the best of luck in their roles.
