The weekends second XV fixture against Dalkeith was formally declared as a walkover victory for ENRFC after Dalkeith could only field 11 players and will go down as a 28-0 win for Northern.
However, in the interest of rugby and getting everyone a game it was agreed that ENRFC would give Dalkeith 4 of our players to ensure that a friendly game went ahead. Lining up for Dalkeith in the first half were Alex Lamb, Juan Vellisco, Tom Simpson and Brendan McMahon. Many thanks to these boys (who I think actually took great delight in getting to hit their mates). Cammy Bell, Calum Miller and Dave McLean then took over the green and red jerseys for the second half. Again many thanks gentlemen.
Northern ran away with the friendly and ultimately recorded an 82-0 win. 12 tries and 11 conversions.
There were a number of excellent performances all over the park, particularly from Cammy Bell at 9 who potentially has his best game for the club. Unfortunately for Cammy this wasn’t enough to win him MOTM which went to debutant Logan Black who scored twice, made numerous turnovers and was just a general behemoth in the back row.
DOTD award went straight to marathon man Paul Coughlan after he attempted a chip and chase, as a back row this should never even be attempted especially when it gets shanked straight off the park.
Honorary mention to Gav Ford for a solid performance and giving us the following line “Please Logan, please let me score” whilst running a supporting line on the big mans shoulder, needless to say the pass never arrived.
As for your captain, I’ll need to wait one more week before I get over the white line to dot down for the first time. A butchered pass from Cammy saw a 10 yard gap go a miss and at what point I thought stepping their prop on halfway would lead to a 50 yard gallop under the posts was a good idea I will never know. The covering defenders took great delight is flattening this gazelle.
Onto next week and we make the short trip over the Forth to face Dunfermline. This will be a difficult game against a very good opposition, however we also believe that we can go over to Dunfermline and bring back the win to back up our good performances. Get yourself down to training on Tuesday and Thursday and get ourselves prepared for Saturday.
