Rob's Rugby Career - Taken from his testimonial website

Rob plays for Harlequins RL and has been granted a testimonial by the RFL (Rugby Football League) for ten years' service to a Super league rugby league club, commencing 1st March 2011, in recognition of Rob's long service, number of games played, good character and service to the community.

Robert is the first and only professional English RL player to have played for a London Club at the premier level (Super League) continuously, for more than 10 years and permanently based in London and South East England for the entirety of this period.

Rob would like to donate to three chosen charities close to his heart. He would like to give a percentage from the total testimonial fund to the following charities;

• Cancer Research – Robert's father has had cancer this year and is thankfully in remission
• Rugby League Benevolent Fund – This charity has given an enormous amount of support to Robert's family this year as Robert lost his brother Garry in the Cumbrian Shootings on the 2nd June 2010
• Help a London Child – Robert feels passionate about helping the London Community as he has lived and played in London for over ten years. London is his home and he would like to give something back to the community of London.

A former Egremont Rangers amateur, Rob signed professional forms for Whitehaven in 1999. Following an exceptional 2001 season Rob gained selection for the England U'21 tour of South Africa. Fine reports on tour and a good opening to the 2002 NFP season led to Rob coming south to play in the Super League with London Broncos.

Representative appearances in 2003 for the England "A" squad against Russia and France, confirmed Rob's rising status in the game. 2005 saw Rob, now playing largely at second-row, raise his game to another level, scoring a record equalling four tries in a match against Leigh. In 2006 Rob broke two further club records; most individual points (34) and most individual goals (13) in a Challenge Cup match.

Further international honours were achieved in 2006 when Rob captained England's Federation Shield squad in four matches against France, Samoa and Tonga (twice). In October 2008, after an outstanding season, Rob finally gained his first full Test cap when appearing for England against Wales at Doncaster; a game in which Rob was voted "Man of the Match" after scoring a try and nine goals.

Rob was also selected to represent England in the 2008 World Cup in Australia, gaining in the process two further Test caps against New Zealand.

Midway through the 2009 season, Rob needed emergency surgery to remove a blood clot from his wrist. Rob was undoubtedly missed during his seven game absence before he returned in emphatic style, scoring two tries against Salford.

A fine ball player with a good step and impressive turn of pace, Rob's physical strength and defensive abilities make him a firm favorite of the Quins crowd.
