Dockers to hot to handle

With temperatures’ touching 25 degrees the weather was more like Sydney than Hull. It was a day which would prove and test the fitness of every man even the water carriers would be tested.

Again the first ten minutes found Egremont wanting as the Dockers forwards led by their number 9 battered the Rangers defensive line. They raced into an eighteen point lead after three tries and kicks from their two centres and full back, at NCL level 18 un-answered points takes pulling back.
But the Rangers resolve is not that weak and with the welcome return of Kieron Glen the lads fought back with Dan Telford proving to strong to handle as he barged over the Dockers line to score the first try. Clayton Sutton took up the kicking duties and calmly added the two points. Two minutes later Rangers showed some real class when Leon carved his way through the Dockers centre line to score. The game ebbed and flowed with the big Dockers forwards sapping the Rangers defence, again big Jonny Goulding led from the front with yet another impressive display. He was backed up well by Tom Whalley, Leon, Kieron and young Pat Wells. Further forward help came off bench in the shape of Bradley Hailes and Kevin Brown.
At half time the score was 18-10 with everything to play for, Rangers struck within four minutes. The half back combination of Paul Corkhill and Anthony Leak worked a fast ball along the line which resulted in the un- stoppable Jack Stainton side stepping the Dockers fullback to score in the corner.
But again the Dockers powerful forwards proved to hot handle and their prop Darren Bunby crashed over to score two tries and with Craig Skelton adding his forth kick of the day, all on a sudden the mountain path got a load steeper. The young side stuck at it with Brad Hailes almost scoring after running some excellent angles, keep doing that and its only a matter of time before you will be rewarded. Tony Hetherington came off the bench and quickly settled in and on sixty three minutes Anthony Leak glided through a tiring Dockers line to score, Clayton again added the two. Score line 28-20.With ten to go my money was on Rangers but after a series of very strange and frustrating decisions , the Dockers found the killer blow when yet another of their big forwards crashed over to score., the two were added to finish the game at 34-20.
In summary, Rangers may have been six players down on the day but when I was writing the names down on the team sheet every single one deserved the right to be there. We coined the phase a couple of years ago “keep believing” and on reflection that’s all that was missing in spells, but you scored twenty points and they all count in the end. Keep listening to your excellent coaches’ advice and the results will come and in future those missing may find it an up hill struggle to get their places back. Apart from the first ten minutes every single Ranger took one step forward, keep at it boys we have three home games on the trot which will be played at the rugby union. Target 6 points no excuses.
Well done guys
Many thanks must go to our trusty bus driver Steve and the back room staff, without their help and patience the ten hours travel would be painful.
