The following e-mail we received from a parent highlights what we stand for as a club....it is great to receive such positive feedback from a parent.
"Hi, I hope you don't mind me contacting you but I just wanted to drop you a line to say how much my son enjoyed his first training session with Eldwick Juniors.
He's been a few times to another junior club this season already, but not one of the coaches engaged and talked to him and made him feel welcome. They weren't very welcoming to me either. They didn't take the time to explain how the club was run or what they wanted the kids to get out of the sessions or what we as parents could expect.
He lost interest in football and was quite hurt from the competitive and impersonal experience he had there. He said to me one day "they don't think I'm good enough". This from a child of 7 who absolutely loves football.
So, after reading on Facebook that an under 8's team was operating, I brought him back to Eldwick this weekend.
I am so glad I did. Nigel remembered him from the crèche and every coach spoke to him, bent down on one knee to speak to him face to face, was genuinely pleased to meet him and were all extremely encouraging. So much so, that he is positively buzzing about coming next weekend and hasn't put the football down since.
It was especially refreshing for me as well, to see the kids having a ball, enjoying football (with no pressure) and the coaches infectious enthusiasm.
It had been so disturbing to see through my sons eyes that "win at all costs" attitude at the age of SEVEN. Surely football at that age is about enjoying yourselves, meeting new people and banging a bag of wind into the onion bag, imagining you're Wayne Rooney, not flying in with reckless tackles, ignoring team mates and not having any fun.
I will definitely be spreading the word and letting other parents know what a great attitude to sport Eldwick Juniors have.
Thank you. You've given a little boy a love of care-free football back."
If you are interested in your son or daughter playing for one of the Eldwick teams please contact the club via e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org or via our Facebook page.
Thank you. EJFC
