A couple of weeks ago when Hucknall put our bowlers to the sword in a run chase there were pessimists like me who rather thought they had one very firm hand on the title to "A". It is true that they still have it to lose but the events of Saturday certainly put an interesting gloss on the state of affairs. First to the game at Unity who have the trap door to worry about after this thrashing. Star billing goes to Jon Wakeling for carrying his bat in his first hundred of the season and Suman Shrestha whose leg spin ran through the home team, whom it seems did not lose with the best of grace, to pick up the brilliant figures of 7-20. There must be honourable mention of Hamish Moore who scores runs every week (most recently 104, 78, 51, 48 n/o and now 74) and has reached 600 runs for the season at an average of 66.67. As to the wider picture: Hucknall suffered a losing draw to Wollaton and so they have 247 to the Firsts 219 who have a game (3 to play) in hand. Sure, Hucknall are better placed but the pressure is there. Also of note and courtesy of the recuperating John Leaver (thank you, John) is that the Ist XI have the same number of points as last season but with (as I say) 3 more matches to go.
