A great day and a worthy winner

61 players, including 19 colts, pushed themselves to their limits yesterday at PBL. The staggered start meant continuous action at the ground from 2.30pm until 6.30pm. The effort and the spirit shown by the players was a credit to the club. The overall best performance was produced by Jonny Owen (Mr Owen to Years 11 and 12) closely followed by Ben Warren and Garrett Avis.

Our Chairman said "The dust has settled from what was a rigorous fitness test for those that were able to attend the club yesterday.

I would like to extend my gratitude on your behalf to the organisers and supporters of the club yesterday who braved the elements and attended the club. For some it was the first opportunity for a socially permitable pint with old friends and for others an introduction to what a rugby club can offer.

My personal thanks goes to the DOR Mark Johnson who worked tirelessly to set the event up for the benefit of the players and coaching staff alike. The club is heading in a new direction with its player commitment this season and this was a soft introduction to what that entails.

The event was followed by the annual presentation and awards. Congratulations to those that walked away with Silverware in recognition of their efforts. For the rest of us my boring old playing mantra of “ It’s not what you have done, it’s what you do next” still holds true. Keep working hard and your efforts will be recognised.

The bar and food service were provided by members of the clubs touch franchise or FAF as it is known. Thank you to those players who provided their time for the day and contributed to the success of the event.

Not to be forgotten are the time keepers and officials at each station of course. Thankyou one and all on behalf of the players that came through your stations.
