Following the dreadful wet weather last season, with weeks of training and games lost, we're investing thousands of pounds into our pitches during the close season.
Our volunteer groundsman Nick Wilson is leading the work with his team of volunteers and he's following the advice of Keith Kent, the former Twickenham groundsman who visited the club in February to offer his support.
This morning Nick led a working party involving players and other club members to spread 20 tonnes of sand onto the training pitch, which has recently been vertidrained, had pressed fertilizer applied, been over seeded and top dressed. After the session Nick commented "who'd have thought, we'd now be looking for rain"!
A big thanks go out to Nick and his volunteers, to all the players and club members who've helped and to the Hampshire RFU who've contributed £1,000 to the cost.
