Ellingham travelled to Arlesford on Saturday for a key match in The Hampshire premier league. In spite of the rain the pitch was firm and offered opportunities for Ellingham’s fast back line. Arlesford, however, starved the visitor of any ball and forced them to defend for long periods of the game. Ellingham struggled to manage the interpretation of the breakdown and the offside line and conceded a disproportionate number of penalties. Arlesford capitalised on this using their far bigger pack to good advantage. Ellingham were not able to build any continuity from the little possession they had and Arlesford converted turnovers into points. The second half was more balanced but ended on the 64th minute. Es centre, Matthew Raybould, was dumped into the turf and suffered a whiplash injury to his neck. The game was halted after an assessment and the realisation that Matt needed an ambulance. Ellingham & Ringwood are grateful for the help and support given to our player by Arlesford. The good news is that the hospital assessment of Matt revealed that there wasn’t any serious damage.
