WE hosted Locksheath Pumas in the Hampshire Premiership on Saturday and accelerated into an early lead with a well worked try finished off by our fly half with the conversion added by our full back Chris Frost . Not allowing the visitors much game time in our half, we piled on the pressure with some good work from the forwards resulting in prop Adam Payne crashing over for a try, but this time the conversion was not successful. Not to be out done our back line got in on the act with three quick tries the first from centre Harry Wescott, the second from winger Will Jenkins and the third from centre Matt Raybould. Christ Frost converted one of his three attempts at the posts. Ellingham were in cruise control and like a well-oiled engine continued to put pressure on the Puma's try line with Tom Sampson our other prop, returning from injury, crashing over near the posts which Chris Frost converted to make the half time score 36 - 0.
At the start of the second half we continued to put the pedal to the metal and cranked it up a few gears to increase our lead. Ben Carey playing on the opposite wing dived over for a good try which Chris Frost was able to convert, but the visitors fought back and having stalled for much of the first half, they spluttered into life finding the gas in their tanks to score their first try of the game. They continued to put pressure on our defence and our ill-discipline cost us when the Pumas were awarded a penalty try.
We fought back with a couple of changes Lex Dakuwaqa set up Ben Carey for his second try of the day to dive over in the far corner. Not to be out done his fellow winger Will Jenkins got his second try of the day which Christ Frost was able to convert. As the darkness descended on the Raymond Brown Memorial Ground and the possible need for the cars parked to at the end of the pitch to put their lights on full beam, so players and spectators alike could see, Ellingham forwards drove the opposition pack in reverse for the home team's number 8 Stu Pearce to score their 10th try of the afternoon making the final score 60 - 12.
