Easton win again

Easton III entertained Broughton on Saturday and recorded their third home win of the season, moving to sixth in the league.

Easton won the toss and elected to bowl, once again placing faith in the bowlers from the U15 junior team. Arthur and Spencer Lee formed the opening attack restricting the opposition to 32 for one off the first 11 overs. Arthur Lee bowled accurately and with pace yielding just 7 runs from his 6 overs but it was Spencer Lee who secured the first wicket, bowling the opener Clemett for one. The next 10 overs however were to prove the downfall of Broughton with Ollie Miles making his senior debut paired with spinner Tom Duff.

Ollie was calm and focussed securing the key wicket of opener Jones, who top scored with 41. At the end of his five over spell Ollie had taken two wickets for just 18 runs. At the other end Tom Duff quickly tucked into the Broughton middle order securing 6 wickets for 21 runs from just six overs, this included three wickets in one over.

The Broughton innings was concluded in the 23rd over and totalled 79 runs.

In reply Easton openers Adrian Lee and Will Wickham were watchful as they looked to lay the foundations for the modest run chase. The wicket was clearly helpful to the bowling attack and Easton were careful not to take too many early risks. Will Wickham had looked relatively untroubled before being bowled by a delivery which appeared to keep low in the fifth over. Arthur Lee joined his father at the crease and both batsmen looked to get on the front foot as much as possible – clearly a winning strategy. Having taken his time to assess the pitch and the bowling Arthur looked to play his shots and recorded 8 boundaries in his 41 not out. As the target approached, and not to be outdone by his son, father Adrian also looked to take the attack to the bowlers and recorded the winning run ending on 25 not out as Easton won by 9 wickets.
