PRE-SEASON NEWS: IGNATIANS BEGIN THE LONG ROAD BACK

ENFIELD IGNATIANS have already begun their pre-season but, with the Covid-19 protocols still very much in place, the first session [June 16] for the 20 plus participants was filed under the heading of home workout.

Under the guidance of fitness guru Hadee Fayaz (pictured|, and using the Zoom video link, the players were required to perform a variety of exercises during the course of the 50-minute session.

Designed to get the muscles going and geared towards testing individual fitness, the feedback was very positive and, for the time being, similar Tuesday sessions (19.30 to 20.30) will be the norm.

Captain Jake Bates said: “It was very enjoyable and I know that Hadee [Fayaz] is developing a workout that will be aimed at the wider club - so that we can get the youth section involved.”

“Obviously, sticking to the RFU (Rugby Football Union) guidelines is paramount but, once given the green light and when it is safe enough for us to do so, we will be returning be Donkey Lane.

“Once we are back at base, we plan to conduct a Saturday fitness testing session, which will be followed by the more standard twice weekly Tuesday and Thursday pre-season training sessions.

“The Tuesday session will be fitness-orientated whereas the Thursday training will focus on core skills, but obviously we will be monitoring events during the next few weeks before finalising plans.”

Returning to London Two level this season after finishing second in London Three North-West last season, Ignatians are seeking to increase their playing base and new recruits of all abilities are welcome.

To this end, new recruits should contact Jake Bates. His contact details are 07887240158 (mobile) and Jbates493@googlemail.com (e-mail). The club runs three senior sides and also has a burgeoning youth section.
