Enfield Ignatians looked good bets to add their big win against Cheshunt following a storming start in the Hertfordshire sun shine which yielded three tries, and with Erik Nagy in great scoring form, this should by rights have sent them on their way.

However, day turned to night for the blue and golds as they melted away in the heat, and with Verulamians finding their range, Ignatians proved powerless to stem the tide on the 4G pitch.

Head coach Kevin Linnane said: “We were a bit light on numbers as our squad only numbered 16. We had six guys missing and seven players playing out of position. We had no centres or fly-halves. Despite this, I’m proud of the boys.”

This age group, like the rest of the youth action, will enjoy a break with a view to re-starting
their pre-season in the summer – possibly in mid-July. So watch this space.
