The Enfield Ignatians U14S have faced some tough assignments of late, but it is clearly standing them in good stead as they made a flying start to their opening game in Pool F by clipping the wings of Ealing B by five tries to two.
Despite the convincing winning margin, Ealing proved doughty opponents and they scrummaged particularly well in the first-half, but once Ignatians sorted out this area they never looked back.
The try scorers were known were James Villamor, Vinnie Bailey and Luke Roper (two)
Head coach Steve Baldwin said: “Mica Rhoden-Andre was our standout player. He initially packed down at number eight, but once we switched him from number eight to lock forward in the second-half, it really stabilised our scrum.
“We haven’t been afraid to test ourselves against tough opposition [such as Verulamians and Tring]. Tring are a few leagues above of us but we certainly gave a good account ofourselves in the 8 tries to five (40-25) defeat.
“We are now building toward the games against Fullerians (26-11) and Finchley (5-12), before squaring up to Old Albanians on December 12.”
