Epsom CC autumn indoor cricket league

Round Eight and the teams are three quarters of the way through their games and only eleven points separate first from last place. The Jaguars tightened the top three places with a win over the Wolves based around a score of 54 from Max Macrae, this was the top individual score for an hour until it was knocked off the top perch by Jack Underwood who racked up 60 runs for the Wolverines as they squeezed out the Panthers to take the top of the league position.

In the first game the Jaguars we three down for 40 runs until Leo Thornburn (24) and Max Macrae (54no) put on a stand of 80 to rocket the Jaguars to the highest score of the series, 155-6. Ishaan Patel and Seb Steiner being the pick of the Wolves bowling taking two wickets each. In Response the Wolves were never really up with the run rate required running out of wickets with two overs still to go. Seb Steiner hitting 31 runs, the only significant innings in a total of 108 with three Jaguar bowlers (Price, Vincent, Mathers) going for single figure runs from their bowling stints and Max Macrae weighing in with three wickets to add to his runs.

If it was the Max Macrae show in the first match, it was the Jack Underwood show in the second. Opening up with his brother he put on 60 runs not out and was ably supported by Sonny Stammers (24) to take the Wolverines to strong if not spectacular score of 126 despite some great bowling from Nick Jeffery (3 overs 1 wicket for 11 runs) and Alfie Haxton (2 overs 3 wickets for 10 runs). Jonas Ashong Barton chipping in with a couple of wickets in support. In reply every time a batter got set to cut lose for the Panthers they lost a wicket. Nick Jeffery and Alfie Haxton both caught when they were getting going and with other wickets falling cheaply the run chase was left to Jonas (25 runs) and Harry Flack (20no) who fell twelve runs short of the target despite a spirited attempt.
