Epsom CC autumn indoor league

Hi all

Unfortunately due to the current safeguarding conditions we have to abide by we are unable to use the school sports hall this side of Xmas, so with five rounds of games played everything is on pause until the new year.

What January will bring is unknown, we have lots of training and skills development plans on hold, but no idea when we can implement them. As soon as we can we will put any information out we receive from Surrey CC/ECB and Glyn school.

The first five weeks of indoor cricket have given the coaches several highlights, and a few pointers on what to develop. But what we are looking for is individual wins, those small moments we know a player can carry with them and build from. The two exercises we were coaching the players to explore were scoring behind the wicket, working the ball into spaces, and also hitting over the top, both shots gaining bonus runs.

An example of this working recently was with Liam O'Rielly. Liam had endured three batting innings for very little return, two runs. This innings he scored just a single off his first two balls and then a seven (7) from a combination of aggressive running to a ball going into a gap and a fielding cafuffle. A play and miss was then followed by Liams first real well driven shot for 3. You could see a change in his body language. Next ball he played an absolutely glorious lofted drive, a straight shot for 6. His expression changed to part disbelief, part rapture. The next two balls then went for a 4, then another 6. Liam retired undefeated, walking off part embarrassed, part cock of the north, but with a look a complete satisfaction on his face.

There have been other examples of this 'win', and also few we still have to encourage.
