"Oh Vienna means everything to me"*

"Oh Vienna means everything to me"*

TBs tour of Vienna a great success!

The TBs were part of the 1st walking festival in Vienna, with sides from Normandy (the Surrey team not the French!), Wimbledon and Vienna.

TBs v Wimbledon. TBs win.
Our first game was against our local league rivals, one of whose number, the night before, was heard to say loudly that all they wanted to do was beat the TBs!
Now the TBs being the sporting side they are reacted calmly and proceeded to give Wimbledon a good beating!
Good batting by Ian, Patrick and Steve was key to our victory but the outstanding performance was the return to form of Gregg "McGrath" and his unplayable away swingers. Having taken 10 trains to get to Vienna, Gregg proceeded to bowl a double wicket maiden to lead us to victory.

TBs v Normandy. TBs win.
Our 2nd game was played with the temperature approaching 40 degrees against fellow league leaders Normandy.
Tight bowling from the start ensured their big hitters were becalmed and unable to get away.
A great over by Steve was the highlight of our bowling, plus his argument with the umpire about what was a wide and what wasn't, enlivened proceedings!!
After a slow start the batting by the legendary four horseman of the apocalypse, Barret, Chris ( Cobham loanee), Gordon and Colin was outstanding and took us within touching of victory. Steve's dashing stroke play followed by senior pros Roger and Greg calmly taking us to victory, with intelligent batting, as they did in the first game.

TBs v Vienna. Vienna won.
In the blistering heat we played a Viennese side, who during the course of the day had got bigger, better and younger and now included two Austrian internationals!
The TBs battled hard against an outstanding bowling attack and managed to get to a slightly below par score.
Facing a powerful batting attack, the TBs did well to take it to the last over but were just unable to take the required wicket. Vienna were simply too good for the TBs.
Highlights were:
The TB captain, whilst umpiring, telling the 28 yr old, 6ft 5in fast bowler that the crowd had not come to watch him bowl spin! He duly sent the next ball down at 90mph per hour - Ian is still looking for it;
Patrick's Hungarian family being upset that we lost to Vienna and so not speaking to him and finally;
The game played very competitively as Vienna realised that we were tough competition.

Summary:
All in all a great trip, which was due to the camaraderie between the TB players and the great hospitality shown by Vienna, bar the fact that there was no vegetarian food and all the meat was pork!!
Roger has worked out that technically we won the competition but as it was a festival that doesn't count!!
