On a wet September day the TBs rolled into Wimbledon like the bad guys in a western - everybody wanted to take them down but were afraid!!
Semi- Final
Normandy 129-9: TBs 144-4
The first game was against a strong confident Normandy side, who felt that this would be their day. Normandy choose to field but the TBs strong bowling attack kept the powerful Normandy batting down to a par score. Fine bowling by Steve, Mahendra, Dave Lazell, Ian and Gregg, accompanied by the usual brilliant fielding meant that the TBs were confident of reaching the final.
The TBs start, however, would go down in the annals of history and not necessarily in a good way - after four overs the TBs had 3 runs, whilst losing 5 wickets! All was not lost, as the next batting pair of John Sands and Richard batted beautifully to bring the TBs back into the game. Followed by aggressive batting by Mahendra and his junior partner meant that the TBs had a chance. The last batting pair of Dave Lazell and Steve then calmly and steadily picked off the Normandy bowlers to take the lead with 8 balls to go. Steve then calmly defended the remaining balls to take the TBs to an unlikely victory against a devastated Normandy side. This game summed up the TBs ethos of never giving up no matter how dire the situation and hanging in there. That is why we are such a tough team to beat.
Final
TBs 183-4: Old Woking 124-8
The TBs opponents in the final were the explosive, big-hitting Old Woking team who had just chased down a big score in the other semi final. The captain lost the toss again and the TBs were asked to bat. Ian and Patrick opened and took the bowling to task - their repressed vengeance got the TBs off to a great start. The Old Woking bowlers then fought back but the third pair of Mahendra and his junior partner pushed the score along steadily setting a good platform for the last pair. Steve and Dave Lazell then batted like men possessed and hit an astonishing 60 of the last 4 overs to take the TBs to a very daunting score.
Old Wokings big hitters started to go large from the start but were no match for the TBs sublime bowling and fielding. The TBs controlled the game from start to finish, with the highlights being a brilliant one handed diving catch by wicket-keeper Richard and an equally great catch by a leaping, flying John Sands on the boundary - made even more impressive by the fact, that it is the only catch he has taken this season.
Thanks to all the players - Roger, Gregg, Ian, Patrick, John Sands, Richard, Mahendra, Ilyas, Dave Lazell, Steve and Dave Porter for scoring and our travelling supporters.
