Full report from Cinder Lane as the Reds open pre-season campaign

CIRENCESTER Town came from behind to secure a 2-1 friendly win at Cinder Lane on Tuesday evening.

The visitors fielded a strong line up against the Reds who were taking the field for the first time in pre-season.

Fairford named a familiar line up with much of the 2015/16 side in the starting eleven - with several new faces included in the second half.

The hosts took the lead on 23 minutes with winger Jason Milhench firing past former Hereford 'keeper Harvey Rivers with a rasping low drive.

It didn't take long for the visitors to reply with former Swindon Town frontman Charlie Griffin heading home from close range just two minutes after.

Ciren had another chance before the interval as Adam Connolly went close as the scores were level going into the break.

Five minutes into the second period the visitors scored the final goal of the game with Lee Smith rising high at the back post to head home from close range.

Substitute Ian Ward - playing his first competitive game in around 18 months - saw his turn and shot pushed around the post before the hour as manager Gareth Davies then made a host of second half changes.

Ben Mitchell made a superb diving save low down to deny Jon Else with three minutes remaining with Dan Drewett's sublime chip striking the post in the dying embers of the game.

It was a useful workout for both sides, competitive and entertaining on on a wet evening at Cinder Lane.
