Goalscoring form continues with solid home display

FAIRFORD Town have now scored 21 goals in four home league games so far this season after a 4-0 win over Easington Sports on Saturday.

Having gone in just a goal up at the break, the Reds put their foot down in the second period with a further three unanswered goals.

With four first team regulars unavailable, there were changes to the side as manager Gareth Davies made use of his strong squad depth with Sam Mepham and Josh Morse coming into the starting eleven.

The visitors, always competitive opposition, made a bright start to the contest and created early opportunities but were unable to find a way past home stopper Ben Mitchell. The opening goal came with 24 minutes played with a fine through ball from centre-back Ben Saunders met by Jack Ellis, who kept his composure before slotting past visiting ‘keeper Jack Goode.

Ellis could have made it two just before the break but having done the hard yards, he dragged his effort wide. Lee Smith, who had started the game brightly, fired over before Jason Milhench then arrowed an effort narrowly over.

A superb low stop from Goode then denied Ellis a tap in as the Reds began to find their rhythm. A goal up at the break, the home side doubled their advantage ten minutes into the second half. Matt Boucher collected the ball 25 yards from goal and having taken a few strides forward, executed a pinpoint finish past Goode into the top corner.

Substitutes then followed with Luke Cordery and Chris Jackson adding further purpose to Fairford’s momentum. Milhench got himself on the scoresheet for the third on 72 minutes with a fizzing low drive that hit the post before rolling in.

The visitors were reduced to ten men four minutes from time with Terry Fitton dismissed for hacking down Smith out wide. The Fairford frontman then added the fourth from the spot after Milhench had been brought down to add the final goal of another impressive afternoon’s work for the Gloucestershire side.
