… a loss in the end but plenty of fight from our lads!

In the biting cold Fawley had a hard fought match against visitors Farnborough today. The air was crisp and Farnborough wasted no time with a try 1 minute after kick off. With Fawley caught napping the opposition converted their kick and repeated the same manoeuvre not 6 minutes later leaving a 0-14 score line.
Farnborough definitely had their weetabix this morning and it’s fair to say that most of the team were at last a head above our lads in height. A few tackles from our forwards ended badly with limbs flying and heads colliding. Another whirlwind try was converted whilst 3 of our lads were keeping first aider Pete busy and the first half saw a bruised and battered Fawley 28 down.
At the half time whistle Fawley regrouped and a few “words of encouragement” from their coaches who reminded the lads that all those training sessions weren’t to be wasted and a Fawley try was very much expected in the second half.
Bolstered by newcomers Dalton Sole and Charlie Smillie from the U14s who were playing up today Fawley came out a different team in the second half. Heads went up and Fawley started to play. A fantastic pass out to Harrison Rees enabled him to put in a great run up the wing and tackles were starting to floor the bigger side.
Fawley were rewarded for their efforts with a push to the line from the whole team carried by Ethan Morton who got the ball to Wyatt Davis who got it over. A conversion by Max Belson took the score line to a more encouraging 7-28.
Fawley immediately improved their rucking and tackling and the visitors were the ones on the back foot in he second half. They did manage a try but did not convert and were penalised for high tackling. Fawley raised the bar again as Aidan Cross decisively planted one over the line for Max to convert… 14-33.
Although the end result was not the win the lads had hoped for, their top of the league opponents had a very challenging second half.
All boys were treated to a slap up luncheon provided by our tireless band of volunteer helpers. Man of the match from Fawley was Dalton and Farnborough bestowed that honour to Wyatt Davis.
