In a hotly contested battle between visitors Farnborough and hosts Fawley, the home team were delighted to secure their first win of the season in a thrilling first cup match.
Farnborough started strong with 2 tries in the first 10 minutes of the match with some great co-ordinated play. Fawley quickly stepped up to equalise 2-2 with strong runs from Ethan Morton, swiftly followed by another fantastic run from Aidan Cross leading to a Fawley 3-2 lead. Some deft play led to a 3-3 equaliser just before half time.
Realising that this was a potential win opportunity Fawley piled on the pressure in the second half with some fantastic defence work from Philip Lalauvaki. Farnborough took the lead to 4-3 but undeterred, Connor Farrell dessimated the Farnborough line with a powerful surge through their defence setting up Ethan Morton to score once again for Fawley, taking it 4-4. With some impressive and determined tackling from Joe Buckmaster, another Farnborough try was averted and Ethan Morton powered through to take it to 5-4. Farnborough were not put off and managed to get another try past Fawley, only for Aidan Cross to score moments afterwards for Fawley, taking it to 6-5 with only 10 minutes left to play.
It was all to play for and with no substitutes to rely on, Fawley had to give it everything they had and boy did they deliver. Encouraged by the cries of "Beautiful" from Head Coach Glenn Jenks, Fawley displayed some incredible team work and co-ordinated passing that set Ethan Morton up to take 2 more tries making the final score 8-5 to Fawley.
Coach Darren Mayhew congratulated the team after their win and the U13s have now set their sights on the silverware.
