Fawley RFC take it to the 'bridge....

On a typically wet and windy Gang Warily day, the U13s visitors were welcomed from Fordingbridge this morning, coming with high hopes, having shown impressive results so far this season. However they were not able to add today to their list of wins as Fawley RFC showed their most impressive fighting spirit this season so far. Shortly after kick-off Ethan Morton put one over the line for the home team, swiftly followed by Wyatt Davis with both players displaying superb agility and speed to take the score to 2-0 not ten minutes from the start. Realising that Fawley were a force to be reckoned with, Fordingbridge stepped up their game, piling on the pressure and preventing Fawley players to repeat their dramatic opening tries. Their defence paid off with a try for the visitors in a hotly contested battle for the ball. Despite some excellent tackling from scrum half James Walley, Fordingbridge were able to get 2 more tries past the home team to take it to 3-2 at half time.
The half time pep talk saw coaches Glenn Jenks and Darron Mayhew encouraging the boys to dig deep and dig they did. The second half was full of excellent rugby from Fawley, from an impulsive quick scoring equaliser from Connor Farrell who spotted his chance and went for it, to some fantastic work in securing the ball in the ruck.
Another powerful run from Ethan Morton took Fawley into the lead and with 20 minutes left on the clock, Fawley decided that 4-3 wasn't enough, with fantastic team work enabling Aidan Cross to make it 5-3. A frustrated Fordingbridge were not giving up and Fawley had to work hard to keep them at bay with a great display of aggression and physical dominance limiting the opportunities the visitors had. Despite a herculean effort from Fawley defence, Fordingbridge managed to sneak in another try taking the final score 5-4 to Fawley.
Fawley RFC U13s should be very pleased with their efforts today, showing discipline and a good attitude. What a fantastic end to the year and 2020 is looking bright....
Happy Christmas to all from the team.
