Unexpected success for the underdogs

Fawley U13s hosted Trojans at home in Gang Warily today. The last time these two teams met, Fawley were well and truly outplayed by the more established club but Fawley were keen to try out new skills they had been practising in training. The dull weather did not dampen the spirits of players or supporters today and within 1 minute of the whistle blowing Ethan Morton started the sun shining for Fawley by scoring 2 tries in quick succession against the stunned Trojans. He then set up a 3rd for Connor Farrell to finish at the line and suddenly it was 3-0 to Fawley much to the surprise of the visitors. As they had been practising, the boys demonstrated great tackling and quick ruck work before Evan Patrick stormed up the pitch to score......4-0! Not to be outdone, Aidan Cross and Wyatt Davis wanted their slice of the action and some more quick play saw these 2 players score 1 each. At 6-0, it was decided that the match would be split into thirds instead of the traditional two halves to give Trojans a chance to counter our fearless attack, with referees agreeing to overlook small errors from the opposition.
Seizing their chance, Trojans fought back and started passing well, pushing our boys to put their defence play into action. The score line went Trojans way for the next third, where they scored 4 in a row despite some excellent tackling from Joe Buckmaster and great covering and defence work from Max Belson at the back.
Fawley decided in the final third that Trojans had been given enough of a chance and their fighting spirit kicked back in with some superb support play from George White and Evan Patrick. Philip Lalauvaki showed some fantastic speed at the wing, covering half the pitch in seconds, but it was Aidan Cross that pushed the score Fawley's way once more.... 7-4. Aidan and Wyatt Davis were notable in their excellent leadership and discipline skills in organising the team as alternate Captains and Wyatt also managed to get past 7 Trojans players single-handed with the ball. His dedication paid off with another try despite losing a shoe on the way to the line to take it to 8-4! Not used to being outplayed, Trojans came back to score another two, so the score at the whistle was 8-6 to Fawley.
Fawley coaches were proud of the way the team handled themselves against these titans of local rugby and Trojans coaches praised the home side for their excellent attitude to the game, naming Max Belson man of the match. All coaches and players were extremely grateful for the excellent food Fawley provided and although today was just a friendly, Fawley delivered a strong message - they might be a small team, but their ambition is growing large.
