A deserved win or was it...

A glorious Sunday afternoon perfect conditions for a game of football...only the lads forgot why they were here...

For 35 minutes there was more life in Witton Cemetery across the road then in the lads...

We fell behind in the twenty second minute of the game, Great Barr broke through the middle... a great save from Jay but their forward was quickest to react 1 - 0 to Great Barr. With two minutes to half-time Harreson went on a run and crossed the ball into the six yard box where Ben was on hand to slot the ball home...1 - 1. As the first half was heading to an end, Harreson went on another run and this time his cross was slotted home at the far post by Mantej...2 - 1 amazing...if only we had played for the previous 37 minutes it may have been an even better end to the half.

Great Barr came out attacking had equalised within two minutes of the restart...once again the lads forgot why they were here and Great Barr took advantage with two further goals to lead 4 - 2, it was embarrassing to watch so much so, some of the opponent parents were laughing at us. We did miss at least six good chances to pull a goal back but woeful finishing was the story of the afternoon. With ten minutes to go Mantej scored his second goal, and for those of you old enough to remember it was similar to David Platts goal for England against Belgium in Italia 90... 4 - 3, was a come back on the cards or had the lads left it too late...with six minutes left we won a corner, the ball was knocked into the box...Jay Hughes is first to react 4 - on...only four minutes left lets hope we don't blow this...Mantej is put through...he scores...a hat-trick and a 5 - 4 lead for us... the lads held on for a win...was it deserved...I guess not on the overall performance...but they did battle to the end.

Players of the Match
Opponents - Harreson
Parents and Managers did not select anyone - as it would be difficult to make choices based on only fifteen minutes of football played by the lads...
