The lads started the first half with the determination to improve on the poor performance from last week and it showed with George going on a run down the left, beating one defender, then a second, then a third and even a fourth before calmly finishing into the far corner to give us an early lead on five minutes. Simon made it 2 - 0 six minutes later and added his second with a calm finish on twenty one minutes 3 - 0. Mantej scored our fourth goal right at the end of the half..but wait..the referee and blown for half-time before the ball crossed the line, reminiscent of Clive Thomas in the 1978 World Cup finals in Argentina. Shelfield didn't cause any trouble in the first half and the lads went in with a comfortable 3 - 0 lead at half-time.
Deja-vu...the lads started poorly in the second half and Shelfied took advantage by scoring two goals...Simon completed his hat-trick and restored the two goal lead. Sheffield scored a third to reduce the deficit to one goal and the lads continued playing poorly and the lack of effort from some of the team was clearly showing...it's times like this when you ALL have to dig in and support each other and not hope someone else will put a shift in for you as well as themselves...controversial...but that's how this roving reporter saw the game...
Similar to last week we missed half a dozen clear cut chances to put the game to bed and better opponents will take advantage.
Harreson put the game beyond Shelfields mini comeback with our fifth goal...giving us a 100% start to the season and move to the top of the league with a two point lead but we cannot become complacent there's along way to go.
