History of the Bulldogs
Fitton Hill & Hathershaw Bulldogs A.R.LF.C relaunched in 2003
The relaunching of a rugby team on Fitton Hill was spearheaded by Dave Hughes & his father John Hughes after numerous years of Rugby League not being represented in both the Hathershaw and Fitton Hill areas of Oldham. Both have worked tirelessly to fight to ensure the Bulldogs continue to represent Rugby League in the local area. We cater for all needs, from youth teams to open age.
The club is proud to boast of its child friendly environment and youth development for all players, regardless of their ability or experience on joining the club. It is at the forefront of RFL backed initiatives and is an equal opportunities cub that has gained Club Mark accreditation.
We give any youth player a chance, no matter the circumstance. The club has been recognised for this over the years winning numerous awards for its groundbreaking work with its less advantaged players. We are currently recruiting players for U12, U11, U10 and U9 teams. We welcome all players no matter there Rugby experience.
The club currently plays its games at Hathershaw Technology College, Oldham, which offers excellent indoor and outdoor facilities for training to cater to training and match day needs.
In 2011, the club suffered the devastating loss of one of its U16 players, Alex Carter, who was and is a much loved and respected part of the Bulldogs legacy. His memory will live on with everyone involved with the club for generations to come.
The club also launched its open age team in 2011, which has set a benchmark for the clubs progression since the relaunch of the Club. We are proud to have players from our own youth teams playing first team Rugby League for the cub every week. We are always on the look out for new players, both young and old, and if you would like to give it a go don't hesitate to get in touch with a club official.
The club would like to thank all the players and their parents, both past and present, they are the reason the club continues to progress. Thanks go to Larry Dawson and John Hughes for his outstanding love of the Game and help in training the youth teams through challenging circumstances. Also, thanks go go David Hughes, whose tireless work ensures the club will continue to thrive in the future.
A big thanks must go to our volunteers who are currently involved. Without you, we would not be able to continue progressing. Thank you! We actively encourage player parent involvement, able bodied or disabled, you will always be made to feel at home with this family friendly club.
Finally we would like to thank the the people who have donated to us, past and present, without you we would certainly not be here. We are always looking for potential future sponsors and openly welcome future investment from local companies.
