How wonderful to be writing almost exclusively about cricket again at the end of July! Please do come down to the club in the remaining weeks of the summer season – we would love to welcome you. We are determined to enjoy our Finchley cricket and community to the full!

Arden Field has burst again into cricketing and sporting life. Come by any weekday and you will see the ground full of children enjoying summer camps. Come by at the weekend and enjoy the cricket from the boundary or our outside bar service (1630-2300 on Fridays, 1300-2300 on Saturdays, 1300-2200 on Sundays). And there is a LOT of cricket going on! Our juniors practise every Friday evening and are now playing age group matches at all levels on weekday evenings. This last weekend, for instance, the women fielded two teams on Sunday (three teams the Sunday before!) and the men put out five teams, three on Saturday and two on Sunday. And we hosted Sky Sports News on Saturday 11 July, the first day of return to recreational cricket - they put together a terrific 90 second segment here: https://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/12027968/club-cricket-returns-with-social-distancing that captures very skilfully so much of what we stand for as a community.

And two final messages on top of that:

• HUGE thanks to so many members and friends of the club who have volunteered such amazing effort across so many fronts in recent weeks and months! In a recent 2 week period, we counted some 50 volunteers from the club helping out on redecorating, coaching, organising, communicating, fixture organising etc! Hats off to you all!

• Most importantly, we will continue to be guided by our watchwords of HEALTH – COMMUNITY – SOLVENCY, as we go about our work together with a spirit of energy/optimism AND caution – not least on the COVID 19 front in the continued, disciplined application of all COVID 19 guidelines both on and off the field.
