Fintan’s first league game of the 2019/20 season kicked off against Leckhampton at the Stade de Folley. Fintan got off to a scintillating start and had the rovers camped deep in their half. It wasn’t long before Jack Daniels played a clipped ball over the top of Leckhampton defence and Dan Robertson lobbed the ball over the keeper to make it 1-0. Fintan kept up the pace throughout the half and Leckhampton barely had a sniff at goal. At around the half hour mark, Leckhampton drew level with a very lucky goal from a free kick, the ball somehow managed to miss everyone in the box and find it’s way into the corner of the goal. Lee Hitchman grabbed another goal for fintan with a powerful header to make things 2-1 at half time.
The second half left much to be desired, although there were chances for Lee Hitchman, Leckhampton managed to pull back a goal to make it 2-2. Fintan had a few more chances, however none were taken and Leckhampton managed to get another undeserving goal, making it 3-2 to the home team. The last 5 minutes Fintan kicked on for a goal to get them level again, and did manage to score a goal, a cute ball from skipper Mike Evans, bundled into the net by Lee Hitchman – although the ball had clearly crossed the line, the referee must have had his eyes closed. It remained 3-2. The last throw of the dice by fintan resulted in a penalty being awarded. Travis Cottle stepped up, but nerves unfortunately got the better of him and he dragged the spot kick wide. The game finished 3-2 Leckhampton. Very disappointing result for the Tans, but plenty of positives to take from a game that we probably should have won. Next up St. Paul’s. We go again.
