A second successive bonus point win was no more than we deserved from a fine performance.

A second successive bonus point win was no more than we deserved from a fine performance. That said there is still plenty to work on if we’re to continue this good form.
Right from the start we dominated and were putting our hosts under considerable pressure. Despite both sides lowly position in the league both we’re keen to run the ball and attack wherever possible. Way’s first score came through the backs when after some good hands our full back picked a great line to score under the posts. Following a period of pressure on the Wheaton line, Kieran was sent in to add his powerful running to the attack and he barged his way over for the second score, which was converted to give us a 12 – 0 lead.
Way’s quickly followed this up the try of the game. After a few phases the ball came out to Potter at fly half who delayed his pass to Sid Carter loitering in the centres (again), who then showed a deft slight of hand having drawn in the defenders to put Joe Lindley in space. Joe still had plenty to do and finished the move off well to give Ways a commanding lead.
The home side then came back into the game following the harsh sin binning of Ashley for an adjudged spear tackle, and managed the first of their two tries.
The second half saw two more tries through Doug and Foxy and one for the hosts, but was largely disappointing from Way’s point of view. We got on the wrong side of the ref and generally became a little too loose, not looking after the ball well enough in contact.
We never looked like losing the game and there were a lot of positives to take from our trip up the M6. The forwards went well at the set piece and carried the ball well but need to work harder in the loose phases of their game to maintain possession. The backs went well, marshalled by Dan and Dave, but need to be more precise in their passing at times.
As Ron and Seamus said afterwards, we need to train together every week to improve on these areas and achieve the vast potential the side has.
Our next league game is in two weeks when Whittington visit The Masshouse. This is another game we can win so let’s all get to training and do all we can to continue our progress up the table.
