It was only thanks to the efforts of Al Rodgers in re-marking the pitch after the overnight rain, that the game was infact played.
We entertained a strong Bromyard side who went top of the table following this victory. Some days you just have to be honest and admit that the better side won. This was very much the case on Saturday.
Bromyards overall team play, offloading out of contact, and support play, compared to our own showed why they are top of the league and we are mid-table. The difference in the score certainly wasn’t down to a lack of effort on our part; we tackled valiantly all day, and had the better of the scrums and line-outs. Unfortunately, Bromyards loose forward play, particularly at rucks was far better than our own, and this proved the basis for their win.
Our backs, try as they may, were unable to consistently get over the gain line, particularly off the slow ball they were getting. On the one real occasion that the forwards gained some momentum following a series of pick and drives, Dan at scrum half found some room to attack the retreating Bromyard backs and raced over for a well taken try.
This, together with very muddy kit was all we had to show from the afternoon.
There’s no First XV game this week, so ensure that we learn from this result and put things right at training.
