Two weeks ago Fleetwood defeated Heaton Moor 22-58 in a league game. Today we returned for a League Cup fixture and repeated their dominance 12-56

Again it was the classy back division that stole the show but only after the forwards put in another big shift to wear down the home side. The first quarter saw honours even with both sides defending well. Fleetwood managed to get on the wrong side of the referee for most of the game starting with a yellow card for Jamie Moran for a scrum infringement, however while down to 14 men the Green and Golds struck the first blow. From an attacking scrum, the industrious George Orry took the ball on and fed winger Kris Phillips who beat his man to touch down for the games first try that was converted by Jamie Mayall. 0-7. The last 5 minutes of the half saw Fleet explode into action. First a good break by James Doherty was finished by Jordan Brocklehurst which was followed by a classic show and go by Jamie Mayall to touch down under the posts. Just on half time a great run by Andy Holme was finished off by Tom Evans. Mayall converted all 3 tries to give Fleetwood a healthy 0-28 lead at half time.

The first 10 minutes of the 2nd half continued in the same vein. A great break by Rob Brookfield was well supported by 3 or 4 players who eventually put James Lilley in under the posts. This was followed up by a great counter attack by Jamie Mayall who put Joe Sharratt in under the posts. Both tries were converted by Jaime. 0-42. Fleet then went to sleep for 20 minutes or so. Moor had a lot more possession and Fleetwood’s indiscipline meant that they conceded 11 penalties a penalty try and two yellow cards. During this time Moor scored a further try to leave the score at 12-42. The last 5 minutes belonged to the green and golds and more specifically Tom Evans who showed his class scoring 2 more tries to add to the one in the first half. Mayall added the extras for a final score of 12-56.

This was another good away day but we will have to work on our discipline against Oldham next week.
