Fleetwood struggle on the road
Glossop 54 Fleetwood 7
Fleetwood travelled to Glossop with a squad weakened by suspension, injuries and late withdrawals.
The commitment of some players must be called into question when “Valentines Weekend” takes priority over a league game.
Glossop were out of the blocks very quickly and were 21-0 up after 15 minutes with 3 converted tries. The 2nd was as good as you would see at any level. Fielding the ball deep in their 22 excellent passing and offloading through at least 10 pairs of hands saw a score under the posts. A complete rout seemed on the cards. However after weathering this blitz Fleet started to control long phases of the game. On 23 minutes they created enough phases to give Harry Baker space on the right. He raced in behind the posts for a try converted by Mike Kelly. 21-7. They continued to dominate possession and territory for the rest of the half despite a further breakaway try by Glossop. Half time 28-7
In the 2nd half Fleet continued to show spirit and determination but the speed size and organisation of a strong well drilled Glossop side saw a further 4 tries scored to leave the final score at 54-7.
Fleet were guilty at times of poor tackling but were generally competitive for long periods of the game.
They did lack a cutting edge but showed lots of effort.
Man of the Match was once again Mike Kelly who was immense in his defensive effort.
