Fleet back to winning ways!

Playing into a strong wind Fleetwood monopolised the early exchanges and with 5 minutes gone, captain Mike Kelly forced his way over for an unconverted try. Ormskirk hit back immediately with a great catch from the kick off that took them deep into the Fleetwood 22. Quick recycling opened the Fleetwood defence for a converted try. 7-5. With 17 minutes gone Fleetwood won good lineout ball on the half way line. A characteristic bullocking run by George Orry took Fleet into the Ormskirk 22. A blindside break by scrum half Doherty put Andy Holme in for a try converted by Tom Evans. 7-12 The rest of the half belonged to Ormskirk as their speedy full back ran in two unconverted tries to give them a deserved 17-12 half time lead.

The second half saw a resurgent Fleetwood. Tries came at regular intervals. First Tom Evans ghosted through the opposition defence, then from a line out close to the Ormskirk line Ricky Newton was the first to react to the ball being knocked over the line. Both were converted by Evans. James Doherty then poached a try from two yards wide out on the left hand side which was superbly converted by Evans. 17-33. Ormskirk hit back with a try of their own before Chris Jones was put in under the posts for another converted try for Fleet. 22-40. Ormskirk had the final say as their impressive full back caught a crossfield kick to complete his hattrick of tries. Final score 29-40.

This was an impressive performance from Fleetwood who showed grit and determination to win against a good Ormskirk side.
