Thrilling Derby

Match Report

Fleetwood under 9's played host to Fylde on Sunday. Fylde brought a full squad of 18 to face the Fleetwood squad of 9 players.
On a wet and muddy day Fleet won the toss and took the ball.
Some good running in the first couple of minutes from both sides saw a slow start with no ground gained.
After 5 minutes Fleet suddenly just “clicked”
Some great mazy running from skipper Zac saw him score a brace of tries, but in a ding dong end to end match Fylde pulled back to 2-2.
Some sustained pressure from Fylde was well defended and a diagonal run across the field led to a score for Fleet. Another try before half time saw Fleet into the break 4-2 up.
Great defence and strong tackling particularly from Mitch, Cal and Charlie enabled Fleet to go into half time in the lead, but all the Fleet players contributed to a solid and impressive first half performance.

In the second half, some good play from Fylde saw them score 3 unanswered tries to go into the lead.
Resilience and solid defence from Fleet saw them stem the flow of tries.
A great driving run from Louis, with half of the Fylde team hanging off him saw Fleet 10 metres from the try line and after a lovely pass from Will saw Zac go over in the corner a full stretch to level the score.
Louis rounded off his epic performance with a try and Fylde also scoring to square it.
Final score 6-6 and a great performance from all the players.
Jamie and Adam giving stalwart performances and Thomas having a brilliant controlled game.
Great service from Cal at scrum half enabling our backs Charlie,Jamie,Adam,Zac and Mitch to hit those gaps and put Fylde on the back foot.
Both props (Louis and Thomas) had strong running and physical games with Will providing some great hands and passes.
Man of the match – Mitch, but if we'd have had 9 trophies everyone would have got one.
A worthy performance enjoyed by all the spectators from both sides and a pleasure to referee.
Well done boys!
