Flint progressed into the semi-final of the North East Wales challenge cup with a comfortable 6-0 win at Rhydymwyn. In a scrappy first half with few chances we had a great chance to open the scoring when from the right, Phil Lloyd delivers an excellent cross and only 5 yards out Shaun Beck glances his unchallenged header wide. We took the lead on 35 minutes when a mis-quede shot from Shaun Beck lands kindly for Jon Rush who scores from 6 yards out. Flint are 2-0 up minutes later on 38 minutes when once again a miss kick from Shaun Beck lands at the feet of Jon Rush who taps home from 1 yard out.
The second half is a much improved performance and dominated by Flint who could have put this game into double figures. Flint go 3-0 up on 55 minutes, Phil Lloyd following up a blocked shot from Mitch Roberts. A minute later Phil Lloyd could only hit the side netting from 4 yards out unopposed. 62 minutes sees Shaun Beck ride 4 tackles but could only hit the keeper from 3 yards out. Flint get their fourth on 67 minutes, Phil Lloyd latching onto a loose ball in the 6 yard box. Flints fifth comes courtesy of Paul Williams from 8 yards out following a low cross in from Shaun Beck. Flint wrap up the scoring on 77 minutes, Ryan Hedges tapping in an Aaron Edwards cut back.
A comfortable win and a much improved second half performance to hopefully take confidence into the Rhayhadar game next Saturday.
