Flint saw off the challenge of a robust Conwy side to progress through to the semi finals of the League Cup.

After a tight opening 10 minutes, the Silkmen started to get on top and created the first goal scoring chance on 13 minutes. A John Davies long throw was launched into the box, and found its way to Johnny Hill whose effort from 12 yards was blocked by a defender on the line.
Following a corner on 19 minutes, Flint took the lead, when a ball was played back to Hill who curled in a cross to the back post that Russ Courtney headed home.
Conwy's first real opportunity came just before the half hour mark, when Josh Davies rose unchallenged following a corner, but he put his header well wide of the target.
With Abe Dobson pulling the strings in midfield, Flint were on top and could have doubled their lead a couple of minutes before the interval, when Kyle Smyth broke through. But rather than carrying on towards goal he stopped and paused, and the momentum was lost and the attack subsequently broke down.
John Davies had to go off at half time, having sustained a nasty cut, and ended up going to hospital for stitches. Stewart Carroll, who was included in the squad although not 100% match fit, came on as substitute.
Conwy were offered a way back into the game on 48 minutes when they were awarded a contentious penalty. Flint skipper Craig Jones looked to have made a great challenge in the box to stop an attach, but the referee adjudged it to have been a foul. Leigh Craven scored the resulting spot kick for the home side.
Flint recovered from this setback and took the lead once again on 57 minutes. Joe Palmer set up a great attacking move with a good run, before finding Carroll, who in turn, quickly played in Smyth. The Flint forward went wide before shooting low. Conwy keeper Jon Lynch got his hands to it, but the shot was too powerful for him to hold and it rolled into the net.
Conwy hit back and had a great opportunity to equalise on 72 minutes. Jack Roberts was through on goal and looked odds on to score, but a great last ditch block by Hill denied him.
The Tangerines continued to exert pressure on the Flint goal in the final stages, and Leigh Craven spurned a glorious opportunity with 10 minutes to go. A free kick played into the box was not cleared by the Flint defence, and Craven hit an effort over the bar from very close range.
With two minutes to go, a Phil Clarke free kick was delivered into the box finding Smyth, whose header was straight at the keeper.
In the 90th minute, Ben Holmes delivered a good ball into the box for the home side, and Luke Robinson's goalbound effort from 8 yards was blocked on the line by the dependable Johnny Hill, to ensure Flint were not taken into extra time.
So despite some late pressure, Flint successfully held on to book a semi place against Gresford. The tie will take place at Cae-Y-Castell, on Wednesday 27th April (KO 7-30pm).
