Flint lost out in the North Wales Coast cup final tonight by the way of the lottery of penalties but take nothing away from Flint as we were by far the better team against non-other than English league club Colwyn Bay. To thier credit the Bay came out early all guns fireing and put Flint under pressure but Flint soaked it up and almost took the lead on 22 minutes when out wide Jack Abraham whips in a cross and Simon Thelwell's headed effort is tipped over by Bay keeper Andy Metcalf. As it happens its the Bay that take the lead on 29 minutes when a hopefull long ball out of defence by Daniel Grannon sees Flints two centre halfs not picking up Jon Newby and his first time strike from inside the area finds the back of the net. On 39 minutes Flint should have been levell when Paul Williams loose out side lays into Simon Thelwell and his quick lay off to Shaun Beck allows Beck to curl in a shot which is narrowly turned wide for a corner. The resulting corner then sees Beck have his header saved by Metcalf and then Jack Abraham shoots over from 12 yards out.
Flint came out in the second half flying and are levell on 48 minutes, John Davies right up field out by the corner flag steps inside sends in a deep cross and with the help of a deflection beats Metcalf into the top corner of the net. The rest of the half sees Flint on top and press to find the winner but just dont manage to find the net.
The game now into extra time sees Flint still on top and sees the Bay wobbleing. On 100 minutes Paul Williams sends a great long ball up field to Shaun Beck but his first time lob went safely wide.In the closing minutes the Bay try a few long range efforts but to no effect.

The game now goes into the lottery of the penalty shootout. Flint up second and upsteps Shaun Beck who rattles the cross bar and inturn decides the outcome of the game as the only miss in the shoot out.Matty Roberts, Jason Renshaw and Stuart Hughes converting Flints other penalties,Anthony Sheehan Scoreing the Bays Fifth and winner.
This is a game that at the start Flint were underedogs but if you looked at the game as a whole you would have easily thought that Colwyn Bay were the underdogs in this tie. Flint can take a great deal of pride out of this game especially when you look that Colwyn Bay are only one league away from the conference and tonight we not only matched them we out played and out battled them.

We now end the season 7th in the league and runners up in the NWC Cup not a bad season in all and i would like to finnish in thanking you for your valued support this season and we at Flint look forward to seeing you again in early August.
