Flint came out on top against a determined and robust Mold Alex side in a thrilling derby day encounter at Cae-Y-Castell, to make it six points out of six after 2 games.

This was always set to be a difficult encounter against a Mold side detemined to register their first points of the season, and so it proved, as despite the lions share of possession we were unable to break the Alex down, until midway into the second half, when their players started to tire.
it was Mold who had the first chance of the game on 13 minutes, when a header back across the box found Lewis Buckley, whose goalbound effort was well blocked by Camden, nine yards out.
It was Camden who came closest for Flint on 18 minutes, with a header from a corner, that was well held by Burns in the Buckley goal. Two minutes later, a Stewart Carroll free kick from wide on the right was met by Jamil Adam, but his header just cleared the bar.
Flint were now enjoying some good possession, but some rugged defending from Mold and over-intricate play from Flint meant that chances on goal were few and far between.
The home crowd were silenced on 36 minutes, when, against the run of play, Mold went into the lead. A free kick was played through a crowd of players into the path of Flint keeper, Elliot Powers. However, he was unable to collect it, and could only succeed in palming the ball back out into the crowded box. Luke Camden managed to get a block on the resulting shot, but the ball fell into the path of substitute Adam Hughes, who had come on for the injured Buckley. He gleefully planted his shot into the Flint net from 14 yards.
On 38 minutes, Jamil Adam was well placed to find the Mold net with a header, but he headed his effort down into the ground, and as it bounced up, Mold keeper Burns tipped it over the bar.
As the second half commenced, Flint were looking for some inspiration from somewhere to get back into the game. If came in the form of Jamie McDonald on 58 minutes with a superbly executed goal. New loanee signing Lawson Okijemi had possession of the ball on the right, and he fed McDonald, who hit an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net from just inside the 18 yard box.
This stirred Flint back into life, and two minutes later they took the lead, when Jamil Adam picked up the ball on the edge of the box. He feigned to shoot, before dragging the ball past the covering defender, creating enough space to plant the ball in the corner of the net, as Burns looked on helplessly.
To their credit Mold fought back, and got back on level terms on 68 minutes. The impressive Thomas Murray cut in from the left, and ran unopposed along the 18 yard box before unleashing a shot on the Flint goal. Powers looked to have it covered, but spilled it, and Hughes, who was following in, was on hand to score his second of the game as the rebound fell at his feet.
On 70 minutes Jamil Adam wasted a glorious opportunity, when through one on one with Burns, he tried to lob the keeper, but ballooned his effort way over.
Gareth Roberts entered the fray on 80 minutes, coming on for Shaun Beck, and he was to prove Flint's matchwinner. McDonald swept in an excellent cross from the right that Burns failed to claim. Roberts had an effort that struck the post, the ball then falling to fellow sub Luke Ainscough, whose own shot was then blocked. The loose ball came out to Roberts once more, who this time made no mistake, planting his shot firmly into the net.
This time Flint were not going to let their lead slip, and indeed could have increased it, when Adam hit a snapshot in the first minute of added on time, that Burns did well to push around the post.
All in all, Flint just about deserved the win, but were pushed all the way by a dogged Mold side, that based on this performance, should have enough about them to secure their status in this league for next season.
