As a whole Flint were dyer tonight especially with that second half display. The first half was tight and pretty much even as you would expect from a derby game. Holywell should have found themselves in front in the first minute as the impressive Steve Lewis was all alone in the 6 yard box but totally missed the ball as he tried to shoot and Flint keeper Ross Dalton was able to clean up. 2 minutes later the move of the game fell to Flint, Paul McNanus floating in a 40 yard free kick to the back post where Simon Thelwell headed back out to the unmarked Liam Hynes who was unlucky with his effort from the edge of the box. Flints Kyle Smyth on 16 minutes brought out a great low save from Holywell keeper Mike Platt with a stinging 25 yard drive after cutting inside to create space. Holywell missed another great chance to take the lead on 40 minutes, Paul Williams sending in a corner and Ryan Davies Guilty of a uncontested header from 5 yards out. It was Flint who took the lead on 42 minutes after the ball was bouncing round on the edge of the Well mens box, Holywell clear but only to Joe Culshaw who unleashes a thunder bolt with his left foot from 40 yards past a motionless Platt in the Well mens goal. Flint 1-0 up in a scrappy but tight 1st half.

The second half was woeful from Flint and deservedly found themselves level on 50 minutes as a result of awful defending as Dan Drazdaukas glides past 3 Flint defenders to cross back to Grahame Williams who shoots through a further 4 Flint defending players to send the large crowd into raptures applause as the ball hits the back of the net. For the next 20 minutes Flint refer to the long ball game where it was clear to see they were not technically gifted enough to execute the moves as Holywell swallowed up every long ball with ease.Every time Flint regain the ball they just simply gave it away too cheaply. Steve Lewis misses another great chance on 74 minutes as once again from 8 years out was acres clear of the nearest Flint defender but his effort was closer to the moon than the net. As the game drew to a close Holywell attacked again and Grahame Williams was one on one with the Flint right back and turned him inside out and was unlucky with his effort which struck the foot of the post. It was from that effort that Flint had there only attempt of the second half as the ball was hurried up field and Culshaw sent in a cross which found Simon Thelwell 6 yards out unmarked but he headed wide.
Holywell come out on top in the derby and it was clear to see that they wanted this more and had more desire than a number of Flint players to win this match.
