On a roll Flint and on the back of a seven game unbeaten run turned up tonight expecting all three points against third bottom Ruthin but had the night to forget.
Flint started this game brightly with the midfield and attack pounding the Ruthin defence and almost broke the deadlock on 19 minutes when a long pass from Simon Hulse puts Ben Jones clear down the right who then runs in and crosses low across the box and finds Jason Renshaw who’s first time strike narrowly goes wide. The rest of the half sees many sloppy passes from the Flint midfield to let Ruthin back in the game.
The second half is no different Flint pressing but with no desire and its Ruthin who take the lead with their only shot of the game thanks to Jason Renshaw who upends Marc Entwistle in the box to concede a penalty. Joe Garner Duly obliges.
Flint now press and on 73 minutes sees a Jason Renshaw corner floated out to Ben Jones on the edge of the box who heads it back in and from 1 yard out Jamie Crowther manages to head 6 yards over the bar. Now comes the miss of the game, the ball somehow falls to Shaun Beck who is only 5 yards out but a very weak trickle shot manages to hit the post. This was not to be Flint’s night and to wrap it up striker Ben Jones was shown red on 84 minutes for a second bookable offence.
With only four games left Flint really would have benefited from three points tonight but lacked desire and composure where it mattered and we wish Ruthin all the best in there survival fight.
