A performance full of energy and tempo was justly rewarded with an emphatic win over Penrhyncoch.

On a tricky surface, Flint set about their task with gusto, and took full advantage of playing down the slope in the first half by carving out a 3-0 interval lead, that it transpired would be the final scoreline of the game.
Richie Foulkes, in the absence of Carl Rodgers, was given the captain's armband, and lead his team by example, scoring two goals and acting as a great defensive shield offering protection to Flint's young centre back pairing of Jacob Lever and Jacques Welsh, both of whom put in assured performances.
The hosts had the first chance of the afternoon, when they took full advantage of a misplaced pass by Chris Budrys near the halfway line, which gifted them possession. Seizing the opportunity, they attacked with purpose, and a fine through ball sent Liam Lewis haring towards goal. But Flint custodian Nik Lee-Bulmer had his wits about him, and raced off his line to quickly block the effort of the Roosters' forward.
Following that early scare, Flint took control of the game, dominating the rest of the first half and scoring three goals in the process. From the award of a free kick for a foul on Budrys just outside the box on 13 minutes, Joe Palmer's initial delivery was blocked, but the rebound came back out to him, and at the second time of asking he played in back into the box, with new signing Morgan Jones making a great little run to get on the end of it and plant a header into the net for his debut goal for the Silkmen.
On the half hour mark, some inventive play was rewarded, when a clever back heel by Jones released Budrys, and as he sized up a shot he was clattered into and knocked off balance, resulting in a penalty award. Foulkes stepped up to tuck away the spot kick.
Another set piece was the catalyst for the third goal on 42 minutes. Palmer was again the provider, this time from further out, about 35 yards from goal. He floated a lovely ball onto the head of Foulkes who directed the ball across keeper Leigh Jenkins and into the goal.
Playing down the slope in the second period, Penrhyn tried to become more of an attacking force, but in general had little joy against a well drilled Flint back four. They did create one good opportunity on the hour mark, when a long cross from the left found Jon Evans in space, but from only 6 yards out he was unable to get his header on target and put it wide.
Flint successfully contained the hosts for the remainder of the match, and always looked dangerous on the break, whether it was via the rampaging runs of Ieuan Hewitt down the right or the trickery of Jack Stewart in the middle of the park.
So, our great start to 2018 continued, with seven goals scored and none conceded, as we put a bit more daylight between ourselves and the bottom sides in the league.
