In our opening game of the season against local rivals Buckley we came away with a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw, but the score line did not reflect the effort put in by Flint, who had to play the whole of the second half with ten men. In a very feisty affair which saw a total of 10 yellow and 1 red card, Flint almost took the lead on 6 minutes when a great cross from the right by Paul Williams to the far post sees Simon Thelwell and Johnny Hill collide whilst going for the ball. The rest of the half is tight but on 41 minutes Shaun Beck is shown his second yellow card for an incident of the ball. 43 minutes Flint thought they took the lead, a quality ball by Stewart Carroll to Tom McGill sees McGill round the keeper only for his shot to land on top of the net. It looked bad for Flint on 45+4 when Johnny Hill fouls in the box, but new signing Leon Bimpson brings out a great save diving to his right to deny Anthony Williams the awarded penelty.

Second half Flint are ahead on 48 minutes when a great ball by Stewart Carroll inside his own half and combined with a well timed run from half time sub Phill Lloyd sees Phill chip the advancing Buckley keeper from outside the box. Flint now with 10 men falter at the back on 59 minutes, an unmarked Mathew Hughes inside the box drills low past Bimpson to level for Buckley. The rest of the half sees Buckley narrowly miss a couple of chances, but it was Flint who pushed the most looking for the winner which never came.
A game where Flint will feel unfortunate not to take all three
points despite 10 men for 49 minutes.
