Played on a narrow pitch which, could have done with a haircut, and with seven 1st team regulars missing, it was going to be one of those games that picking up a point would have done.
Things did not go to plan straight from the kick-off, and with the game only three minutes old Danny Dobbins and Matty Harvey made a mess of a clearance between them to let in Tom Evans, who neatly chipped keeper Leon Bimpson from 20 yards. Maters were made worse 10 minutes later when Danny Dobbins, under no pressure tried to head back to his keeper, the ball fell well short and the host’s Alun Jones slipped the ball past the advancing Bimpson. Flint’s defence creaked once again when a minute before half-time Danny Dobbins and Matty Harvey once again made a mess of things just outside the box to let in Alun Jones to score his second of the game. 3-0 at half-time and looking grim.
Five minute into the second-half Simon Thelwell score a suburb free-kick from 30 yards and then adds number two in the 75th minute when he heads home a perfect cross from Paul Williams to bring Flint back into the game. Flint were now pressing hard for the equaliser and in the 75th minute, against the run of play, a long clearance up field is not controlled by Stuart Hughes, who was then robed of the ball by Tom Evans, who went on the score the host’s fourth goal. Three minutes remaining, a long ball is played into the box and substitute Ritchie Hughes neatly puts the ball into the back of the net. Flint now looked for the equaliser, but to no avail.
4-3, disappointing result and another booking to Simon Thelwell who now pick up a one match suspension.
