In what we knew was going to be a tough game saw us play well for long periods of the game against a well organised Porthmadog side and a side who themselves caused us problems for periods of the game. It was Porthmadog who created the first chance of the game Darren Thomas sending in a cross from the left on 17 minutes and captain Rhys Roberts sending his header wide. It was Porthmadog again who created the second chance of the game on 27 minutes, the ball finding its way through a static Flint defence and a slight toe from Mark Jones brings out a great save from Adam McGee in the Flint goal. It was Flint who had the best chance of the half when on 35 minutes Phill Lloyd runs at goal and plays in Paul Williams and with no pressure puts his effort wide from only 10 yards out.
Flint start the second half the stronger side and should have scored on 62 minutes when Shaun Beck latches onto a slip up in the Porthmadog defence and through on goal rounds Porths keeper Richard Harvey and shoots wide with the goal empty from 4 yards. Again on 77 minutes a Flint chance goes begging when Chris Reilly sends in a free kick and with time to compose Flint captain Johnny Hill heads over from 6 yards. With game looking a 0-0 draw flint receive a bitter blow when on 89 minutes Iwan Williams puts in a corner to the near post and an unmarked player heads back across goal and an unmarked Marcus Orlik is allowed to head the winner on the line for Porthmadog.
Poor defending at the deaf allows Porthmadog to walk away with the spoils but we can’t be too harsh on the defence as our strike force are having the chances but are not converting chances and easy chance at that.
Another tricky tie away to Ruthin next Saturday to look forward to.
