Flint gained their third consecutive win against lowly Penycae but had to fight right to the death to collect the points. In a very poor first half only a shot wide from Shaun Beck on 20 minutes from 20 yards was all Flint had to talk about but it was Penycae who took the lead on 31 minutes, Sean Dodd floating in a free kick from the right and not one of the seven Flint players defending the free kick saw Ian Williams creep around the back and he had the simplest of tapings.
The second half started not much different from the first but on 55 minutes sees Flint start to control possession after Jon Rush was brought down in the box by Sean Dodd, Flint captain Stewart Carroll converted the awarded penalty. Flint continued to push but like other games gone by fail to find that killer final ball. Flint were made to wait till 84 minutes to find the winner when a Jason Renshaw out swinging corner was headed towards goal by John Davies and Shaun Beck got the final touch to see the ball over the line. The third goal started from an unlikely source, Flint keeper Adam McGee kicking out of his hands, the ball travels far up field, takes a bounce and sub Jamie Watkinson rises above the advancing Penycae keeper to head home from 12 yards out.
Not the greatest performance but three points all the same. Now we have the easiest of tasks next week when we welcome welsh prem outfit Neath in the welsh cup 3rd round, Ko 2:30.
