A stirring second half comeback, spearheaded by new signing Ged Kinsella, made sure that Flint came away from Y Traeth with a share of the spoils

That scenario had looked extremely unlikely at the interval, when Flint had trailed 2-0 to the hosts, and had not been in the game up until that point.
Port took the lead after 16 minutes, when a long ball released Shaun Cavannagh, who sprinted into the area. As he struggled to keep up with the Port forward, Ieuan Hewitt made a desperate lunge to try and win the ball, but only succeeded in bringing down the player to give away a penalty. Cavannagh got to his feet and confidently dispatched the spot kick.
A failure to clear their lines proved costly for Flint on 25 minutes, following a low cross into the box by Rob Evans. As the Silkmen defenders dithered, Cavannagh was on hand to pop up and score from close range.
Meanwhile, at the other end, Port goalkeeper, Paul Pritchard, was a virtual spectator as Flint struggled to create any worthwhile chances.
It was something of a relief, that the deficit was only two goals at the break, but even so, on the evidence of what had gone before, a comeback seemed unlikely.
However, Flint were a side transformed in the second half, using the flanks to good effect, to attack with gusto, and debutant Ged Kinsella was making dangerous runs from the midfield that were not being picked up. Pritchard was now being called upon time after time to try and deal with dangerous crosses into his box, as the Silkmen put the hosts under constant pressure.
On 55 minutes, that was rewarded when Kinsella headed home from a Brandon Burrows delivery from the right. Flint now had the bit firmly between their teeth, and continued to pile forward in search of the equaliser. The only danger appeared to be if the home side could manufacture a breakaway, then they could probably snatch a killer third goal. But, whereas their passing had been accurate and sharp in the first half, they were now struggling to put any decent moves together, as Flint's players were quickly closing down their opposite numbers, denying them time and space.
Richie Foulkes was denied on 74 minutes, when, from a corner, his shot was blocked on the line. But just a minute later, the pressure told, as Kinsella reacted quickly to a loose ball in the box, to strike a shot from 15 yards out. It took a big deflection on it's way to goal, that completely wrongfooted Pritchard, who couldn't readjust, and the ball found it's way into the unguarded net.
Having been pegged back to 2-2, Port stirred themselves, and the last quarter of an hour, saw both sides going in search of the elusive third goal.
On 86 minutes, Foulkes stretched to intercept a dangerous cross by Cavannagh, as he was running back facing his goal. His touch only succeeded in directing the ball onto the Flint goal, and it thudded against the bar, as the Silkmen had a let off, although it would have been cruel were they to have conceded in such a fashion.
With the game in stoppage time, Flint were awarded a free kick in a central position just outside the box. But the Porthmadog wall did it's job and blocked Hewitt's effort, to make sure the game ended all square, which, on the overall balance of play was probably the correct result.
