On a very cold and snowy night at The Rock we came away with a spoil of the show in an enthralling match, which eventually ended 4-4. This was your typical game of two half’s, which could have easily have seen the host’s put the game out of reach by half-time.
Ironically it was Flint who took the lead after 2 minutes of play gone. A John Davies throw-in from the left into a crowed box, a loose ball breaks to Paul Williams who makes no mistake from just inside the box to put Flint one up. Cefn Druids up their game and tempo and are level on 11 minutes. Flint fail to clear a Druid’s cross and Adam Hesp scores from 6 yards. The host’s take the lead on 17 minutes when a hopeful long ball is miss-controlled by Mike Banks and Mike Burke races clear to score low past the advancing McGee in the Flint goal. In the 27th minute Flint conceded their third goal when totally unmarked at the far post, Mike Burke taps in from a Adam Hesp cross. The host’s keep up their furious pace and miss a few more good chances, non-more than Andrew Swarbrick on 37 minutes when he shoots wide from 4 yards with the goal open. A first half which Flint failed to deal with a very direct and pacey Druid’s attack.

What a contrast the second-half was, with Flint coming out playing more composed throughout the team. On 54 minutes Flint’s John Davies again turns provider, when out on the wide right lays a cross to Tom McGill and his first time left foot strike from the edge of the box curls into the top corner of the net. Flint are level on 58 minutes when new signing Sean Kilgannon lays the ball square to Shaun Beck, passes his marker, runs wide but then shoots a low drive past Druid’s keeper Chris Mullock from 16 yards into the bottom corner of the net. Eight minutes later ex-Flint player Tony Cann is sent off for a high challenge on Stuart Hughes. Flint take the lead on 68 minutes, when a loose ball in the Druids box falls once again to Paul Williams who coolly slots home from close range.
With the game looking like Flint taking all three points up steps referee Andy Harmes to take centre stage and add no more the 11 minutes of stoppage time, yes 11 minutes, and it was in these 11 minutes that Druid’s got their equaliser in the 94th minute. Paul Speed heading in a Adam Hesp cross.
Flint will feel hard done by the time of the goal, but the result was more than fair after our below par first-half performance.

I feel I must add at this point, and to reiterate what was said in a previous report, that the Cymru Alliance have a major problem in the standard and quality of referees they are appointing, where Mr Harmes got his eleven minutes off tonight not one person at that game could give a plausible reason. The Cymru Alliance seriously need to review the standard of referees now, not later or this league is on a road to nowhere.
On a lighter note we now travel to Rhos Alwyd on Saturday and must surely must take a great deal of confidence after tonight’s second-half performance
