Today we travelled to Belle Vue and lost 2-1 but to be honest if we had of lost 10-1 we could not have complained such was Rhyl's dominance of this game. Flint did however have 2 corners in the opening 5 minutes but Rhyl picked up their stride and almost took the lead on 11 minutes after a good sweeping move down the right, Marc Evans low pull back for Paul McManus and his first time shot from the edge of the box is tipped around the post by Flint keeper Mike Jones. Rhyl again could have took the lead on 34 minutes, Steve Lewis cross from the right is met with a thunder shot from Danny Hughes but the ball is brilliantly saved by the excellent Jones in the Flint goal. With Rhyl having 90% of the possession in the first half its Flint who take the lead on 43 minutes, Sam Jones cleverly lays in Phill Lloyd and his rocket from 12 yards ends up in the roof of the net.
The second half sees Rhyl come out flying and are level on 53 minutes when John Davies trips a Rhyl player in the box and Paul McManus converts the awarded penalty. In one of Flints rare moves up John Davies sees his tame header easily saved by Ramsey in the Rhyl goal. Flint continue to defend attack after attack and on 72 minutes Flint keeper Jones again pulls off a fine save from Stephan Lewis. Rhyl get their deserved lead on 75 minutes when a defence splitting ball from Tom Rolands is met by Marc Evans and he runs at goal and Jones has no chance with his coolly placed shot. Jones in the Flint goal continues to frustrate the Rhyl attack for the rest of the half.
A game where Flint saw very little of the ball and when they did see the ball,gave it away too cheaply. Back to the drawing board now for the visit of Conwy Borough next Saturday.
