Today we got back to winning ways at the expense of Ruthin in a tricky affair on a very slippery pitch. Flint almost took the lead with the move of the game on 9 minutes, a great counter attack sees a great first touch from Aaron Edwards to Ross Rule and he in turn with his first touch finds Ryan Hedges who runs at goal but the ball runs too far but kindly falls for Ross Rule and with the goal at his mercy, fires wide from 8 yards out. Ruthin were denied a blatant penalty on 22 minutes when Flints Matty Harvey fouls in the box. Flint are ahead on 26 minutes, Ryan Hedges picking up the ball on the edge of the box, glides past 2 two defenders and scores from 14 yards out. Ruthin are level two minutes later when Stuart Hayes converts a penalty resulting from pushing in the box. Right on half time Flint have another good chance when a great long ball from Ross Rule finds Ryan Hedges and after a great turn inside his marker hits the keeper with his low shot.
Flint keep up the pace in the second half looking for the winner and should have found it on 57 minutes, Sam Jones delivering a great cross to Ross Rule but he could only put his header wide from 6 yards out. Flint are back in front on 73 minutes with an element of luck, Paul Williams firing in a low cross from the right and the ball takes the slightest of touches from a Ruthin defender and ends up in the net. Flint go further ahead on 77 minutes,Shaun Beck scoring with his second attempt following a Paul Williams assist. Ruthin make the dying seconds abit glittery when Tom Matishock scores on 90 minutes.
A much needed win and an ok overall performance to hopefully take confidence to Penycae next Saturday.
